Team X-Raid's Stéphane Peterhansel ripped his BMW X3 through SS3's sand dunes to take the overall rally lead with his 52nd Dakar stage win. Peterhansel's teammate Nani Roma had another discouraging day, going off the road again after yesterday's roll and subsequently retiring. More drama: American driver Robby Gordon lost more time today and finished 55:56 behind Peterhansel and Giniel Devilliers had to stop on stage due to engine issues; Devilliers finished 02:55:59 behind Peterhansel, but Volkswagen crews hold the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th positions.

X-Raid Team's Nani Roma rolled his BMW X3 during Day 2 of the Dakar 2010; a roll that cost Roma precious time but could have ended much worse. The crew was OK and Roma eventually managed to get going again. The EUROSPORT footage also shows Argentine driver Orlando Terranova rolling his Mitsubishi (Car #311).

Canadians Lawrence Hacking (driver) and Christian Girouard (codriver) are attempting the Dakar 2010 as a car entry, running a Mason Motorsports Pro-Runner Chassis with a VW Turbo Diesel engine built by JRP. Hacking ran and finished the Dakar back in 2001 on a Honda Motorbike and hopes to repeat his success this year on four wheels. Keep an eye out for car #375. Video after the jump.
Hacking had a little too much fun testing the buggy this past September and rolled it on its side. See the footage of his slight off in the video below.
Travis Pastrana wasn't the only one jumping into the New Year. Robby Gordon's HUMMER caught some air off the Ceremonial Start ramp in Buenos Aires to kick off the Dakar 2010. Video after the jump. Literally.

Happy New Year and Off-Season's Greetings from the entire World Rally Sport team! 2009 was a very exciting and challenging year for us as we completed our first full rally season with the WRS website. WHAT A RIDE. We are even more excited about how awesome the 2010 season will be!
Looking back at 2009, we are extremely happy with what we were able to accomplish in a year that blew by so quickly and we were continually reaffirmed in our mission to unite rallyists by the positive feedback and encouragement we received from so many people active in the rally community. We have learned A LOT from you.
We are endlessly grateful to all the competitors and crews, organizers and volunteers, media, businesses, and spectators who took the time to speak with us this past season. We're looking forward to working with you all more closely in 2010. We are also very appreciative of WRS members, readers, fans, and our friends in sport for your endorsement as well as your feedback and patience as we work to improve the website and our coverage.
THANK YOU! We certainly could not have done it without your support!
WHAT TO EXPECT IN THE 2010 SEASON
For World Rally Sport, 2010 will largely be about building on the relationships we've developed while cultivating new ones in order to increase the quality of coverage and level of exposure for everyone involved with rally. We are reaching out to more teams, events, and media in an effort to better connect them with fans and let them all share their stories with a wider audience.
We will also be collaborating with more media outlets, press officers, journalists, photographers, and videographers to ensure the content we deliver has higher information and entertainment value to you, the reader.
You can expect us to roll out some new, exciting projects and partnerships this year that will focus significantly on fan/spectator engagement, including the introduction of a new online rally magazine that takes a fresh, dynamic approach to grassroots rally coverage. We will be making announcements about these projects in the near future so stay tuned!
Wishing all our old friends and all the new ones we've made along the way a happy, healthy 2010.
We remain fully committed to you and to the growth and promotion of our sport.
Rally On!
-Francisco La Torre & the WRS Team
